Toofer

Er, I mean, two-for.  A two sale kind of a day.  I was able to go to the first 45 minutes of a neighborhood sale near my house that usually gives up lots of vintage goods, and also a church sale.  A two sale day is a good day.

I started off at the neighborhood sale.  Rolled up about 15 minutes early, as I'm wont to do.  So I cruised around and cased the joint.  Felt it out for those sweet vintage vibes.  When it was time, I started in the right spot. Vintage gold on the first try!  A vintage Japan sleigh with candy cane runners for a quarter!

(New in package honeycombs were found later at the church sale.)

I also was able to nab a large bag full of play ice cream!  I love ice cream, and it's so fun to decorate with for summer!  I'm especially excited about the McDonald's and Dairy Queen pieces.

(The hot pink Easter basket was found later at the church sale.)

I also found a sweet vintage beach themed hankie which was labeled "vintage" on a piece of masking tape and unceremoniously stuck to the front of said vintage hankie.  If I thought something was valuable I sure wouldn't go around sticking masking tape to it.

(Other bits and bobs found at the church sale - close up later.)

I wanted to be at the church sale when it opened so I didn't stay too long. There aren't too many neighborhood sales that I still enjoy going to, but this one is definitely on the list.

When I arrived at the church sale, they made me give up my red basket.  They were not allowing people to shop with bags or baskets.  They had a ton of volunteers taking your finds to a holding area for you, which was actually pretty nice.  Didn't have to lug anything around, and everything was kept safe behind the scenes.  You got a number when you entered and used that when you were ready to checkout.

I obviously hit up holiday first and scored this adorable felt wall hanging. The bottom dude needs a new mouth, but I should be able to fashion one in a jiffy.

I also got a huge bag of ornaments for a few dollars that had a bunch of stuff for my Etsy shop.

I then went over to jewelry where I scored a few cute things:

Some wiggly bangles and Orange Bird earrings!  So excited, I love that dude!  And he's pretty hard to come by. The little chick in the back is a Hallmark figure. I have the pin of the same character. I didn't even know there was a figure!  Very exciting.

I saw this cute little girl and stopped to tell her that I loved her sunglasses.

Tag Teaming

Since Ann @magicsummervintage is back to her day job (teaching) we have to go it alone from here on out.  Until summer.  Or at least her first school break.  This past week she had Thursday off and I had Friday off.  We decided to hit the same sale on back to back days.  There were lots of texts exchanged.  Lots of photos, and questions, and excitement.  I went on the second day of the sale and I decidedly had an easier time of it.

On the first day of the sale (A sale just PACKED with vintage clothing, shoes, purses, etc.) she was 30-something in line, which stretched back to Terre Haute.  By the time she got in, most of the vintage clothing had been gobbled up by a (rather amazing and fun) duo who had ventured from Toronto.  Ann did end up getting a bunch of vintage clothing though, and got to hang out with some cool people, so all was well.

Meanwhile, I was receiving texts left and right as she was, selflessly, using part of her vintage-grabbing time to check out items of interest to me. Several things were too expensive on day one, so I had her leave them, hoping to be able to pick them up at half price on day two. I ended up with a small, but sweet haul, via Ann:

The bottlebrush tree needed a bit of a rendezvous with a glue gun, but it's really gorgeous and a very exciting addition to my generous collection of Christmas trees. There is a box of crafting/floral doo dads under the rubber face...bear?  I love rifling through odds and ends of that sort. There were some very cool vintage Halloween bits that will be making their debut shortly in my seasonal decor. The rubber face dude will be going to my Etsy shop in the next week or so.  They terrify me to my soul, but I know lots of people who have a heart for them and I hate to see them languish at a sale, all lonely and unloved.

Ann, of course, came to visit me at work right after the sale, to regale me with the play by play.  She was all wild-eyed and sweaty, her hair slightly askew.  "THAT. WAS. INTENSE."  And after I heard the tale, I agreed!  Go check out her blog and read all about her misadventures!

The next day I went to the same sale, expecting there to be a large line.  I got lucky and was only 10th in line.

Right away I was able to snatch up the vintage millinery and mercury glass picks that I'd waited until day two on. A heart-thumping score!  There were a few pieces that don't match my decor, but are luscious and worthy of love.  They'll be hitting my Etsy shop in about a year.  (I have a bit of a backlog.)

I also found some surprise vintage holiday pieces (I looooovvveeee vintage masks!) along with a candy tin and a vintage "shampoo brush" to help work the suds into our pup's thick fur during bath time.

A few little kitty tidbits.

This toothbrush holder won the award for weirdest item. It did not come home with me.

I was able to return the favor for Ann and grab her a few items at half price.  We're a good team, even when we are working separate shifts!
